I HELP WOMEN WITH UNRESOLVED PAIN.
When you experience a difficult or traumatic childhood, relationship breakdowns, chronic stress, great loss or abuse, you can feel like you’re carrying the emotional weight of the world on your shoulders.
Can you relate to any of these experiences?

  • You feel lonely, empty, lost and like no one will understand.
  • You struggle with anxiety and depression or frequently feel overwhelmed.
  • You’ve lost hope that life could be different
  • You frequently think, “I am not good enough.” and it affects all aspects of your life — your job, your relationships, your level of happiness.
  • You’re tired, unmotivated and have lost your sense of purpose.

Between looking after everyone else, raising children, or cultivating your career and living a busy life it can be easy to normalise these painful experiences and leave them unattended.

But your life could be so much more…..

Hi, I’m Carissa Rodgers and I hear you and I see you.

In my early adult years I stumbled into a dark and difficult time myself and from the depths of my own despair, my cries for help were heard by strong women. Strong women began to show up in my life in the form of therapists and mentors.
I remember how vulnerable and uncomfortable it was reaching out and receiving the support I so desperately needed. I had to muster up all the courage I had just to show up.  I wasn’t even sure if I could share the truths that felt too difficult to tell. But there was something about the warm embrace and safety of the therapy space that allowed me to go deep within myself and work through the layers of wounds and shame I was carrying.
I’m so grateful for my own experience of being supported by strong women in individual therapy, group therapy and sacred women’s circles.  I felt truly seen and heard in a way my soul was aching for. It was through these experiences  that I not only worked through problems and issues but I began to grow as a person. The places inside myself that felt the most difficult to enter into is where I found the most jewels. Underneath the layers of wounds and defenses I came to know my authentic self. My therapeutic journey turned into a deeply sacred journey of knowing myself.
As my inner life alchemised, my outer life transformed. My relationships became healthier, I felt more connected to those I loved, I developed close and deep friendships, I began to have healthy boundaries, I felt freer in my body and more grounded in who I am. I also knew in my heart I wanted to be a strong woman for other women going through difficult times.

I also knew in my heart I wanted to be a strong woman for other women going through difficult times.

Since then I became deeply inspired to help other women and follow my own sacred calling as a therapist and sacred space holder.

I completed a 4 year Masters degree in Psychotherapy as well as 3 years specialised training in trauma and became an accredited Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.

I founded Widebay Counselling and Psychotherapy, a therapy practice that supports organisations and workplaces. I have worked extensively with the Emergency services providing trauma counselling.

I married my amazing husband, had 3 beautiful daughters, adopted 3 dogs, 1 cat and a guinea pig and moved close to the ocean to soak up its magic.

I have spent years taking part and creating my own sacred spaces for women to come together, heal, laugh, cry and feel like they belong, in my community.

Now I’m on a mission to help women like you heal their wounds and find inner peace and freedom!

  • I believe… that we can change our destiny; that we don’t have to settle for a life of pain.
  • I believe… that it is your birthright to know what it feels like to experience a profound and deep connection to yourself and others and to reclaim what is sacred to you.
  • I believe… that I can help you heal your wounding by gently peeling back the layers that are stopping you from living your authentic and purposeful life.

Here’s one of my client’s experiences

“Carissa was able to walk with me through my experiences with the utmost respect and care, ensuring at all times I was okay, teaching me what was happening within my body. Within 6 weeks of seeing Carissa I had divulged things I had never divulged to anyone, during one of these sessions I experienced what I can only describe as a fundamental ‘shift’ in me where I no longer feel the rawness of the pain, anger, guilt and the shame that I have carried for 40yrs.

I am now excited and for the first time really believe I can heal from the past trauma and reshape myself into the person that I long to be. It will take time and commitment which I will give freely.

Professional Bio

Carissa Rodgers, MA is a heart-centred Somatic Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Stress & Trauma Therapist, Self-Compassion Coach and the Co-Founder & Director of the Wide Bay Counselling & Psychotherapy Practice, where she supports workplaces and organisations with Employee Assistance Programs, critical incident response and supervision for counsellors and helping professionals. Wide Bay Counselling & Psychotherapy also offers services for people to work through PTSD, depression, anxiety, abuse, grief, and relationship issues. In addition, Carissa offers counselling, supervising and training for the Queensland Ambulance & Fire service.

Before entering private practice Carissa spent over 12 years as a Counsellor and Community Educator serving diverse populations in community services. She played an instrumental part in trauma flood recovery in her community through the development of workshops including the creation of a workbook for women to support their recovery process.

Carissa loves working with women who seek a deeper connection with themselves, helping them connect more deeply with their wisdom through her signature method The Somatic Awakening Method™ a body-centred, relational psychotherapy, based on ancient wisdom, nervous system healing, family constellations, mindfulness, sacred practices and embodiment arts. Carissa holds qualifications in community services, and completed her Masters degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy, and is a Somatic Experiencing and Somatic Practice (touch for trauma). All these methods are based deep in neuroscience and the science of the nervous system to heal and move toward wellbeing.

When working with women, Carissa guides them get out of their heads and into their bodies, which helps them release their past and awaken their heart. Carissa believes everyone has innate potential inside of them to feel empowered and free. As a result of working with Carissa, clients locally and from around the world are supported to reclaim their inherent resilience and go on a transformative and alchemical awakening journey.

Carissa also helps women who have experienced early childhood stress and trauma guiding them to view trauma as a sacred gateway—one they can enter and evolve through, safely—rather than seeing trauma as a problem that needs eradicating. Carissa facilitates women’s workshops, and she does this by creating safe group Healing Spaces for women to come together in a sacred circle, where she utilises somatic therapies, ritual, ceremony, movement, dance, and touch practices to support women to become devoted to their soul work and embody their life.

All women’s workshops are facilitated through the sacred circle, where the circle itself becomes the guide. Carissa believes there’s a rich, collective generational wisdom we can tap into when we come together in sacred circle. Therefore, the circle itself becomes our greatest teacher and healer. Carissa has witnessed the power of ritual and ceremony and knows how to cultivate deep heart connections of those who come together.

Carissa firmly believes in the healing power of warmth, deep connection, care and tender-hearted presence, which she freely offers those who come into contact with her.

Carissa lives by the ocean and can be found sitting in one of her local coffee shops enjoying the simplicity of a small seaside life. She is a busy mum of three gorgeous girls, practices yoga and meditation and loves to dance to shake things up.
